Specimen Collection

Blood SamplesThe AdvanceDx100 Serum Separator Collection Card is a revolutionary new way to collect, store, and transport micro-sample blood specimens for laboratory analysis. It supersedes all previous collection methods in its ease of use and accuracy.
The secret to this patented device lies in its special blood transport method that actually separates the blood serum from the red blood cells right on the card. This is the same process that occurs when a tube of blood is "spun down" in a centrifuge before processing. The card is then dried and is ready to send to the laboratory for analysis without any further special handling. No medical training is needed to complete the collection process. Anyone can collect a valid specimen.

Collection Instructions

Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Lipid Panels and Triglycerides require a 14 hour fast prior to collection.
No food or drink is allowed during this time!

  1. Fill in the information on the request form. Make sure to include your email address and access code as this is the information you will need to obtain your results. Place the collection card on a clean, dry surface and print your name and date on the card.
  2. Prepare for your specimen collection by taking out the alcohol prep, lancet, sterile gauze pad, and band aid. Wash your hands with soap and warm water and dry thoroughly. Rub your hands together for 30 seconds to increase blood flow to the area. Decide which finger you will stick. Using your thumb of your other hand put pressure on the finger sliding your thumb up from the base to the tip of the finger. Do this action three or four times. Just before you stick the finger use the thumb on your same hand to put pressure on the fingertip, then using the lancet, bury the needle all the way to the hilt.
  3. Wipe off the first drop of blood using the gauze, then let the next four to six drops fall on the proper area of the card. You must place enough blood on the card so that the blood reaches the designated line. You may squeeze your finger with your thumb to help the blood flow.
  4. Allow the card to air dry for thirty (30) minutes. Then open the Blood Sample Return bag at the notches and insert the card into the bag and seal it. DO NOT REMOVE THE DESSICANT OR OXYGEN SCRUBBER FROM THE BAG!
  5. Place the card and the completed request form in the preaddressed and prepaid mailing envelope provided. Seal and mail the envelope as soon as possible.
  6. You will be notified by email when your results are complete. You can then visit our web site www.bayshorelabs.com to review and print your results.
